MEET MYLA.

A UK based black, queer, editorial artist constantly pushing creative boundaries in makeup.

1. Introduce yourself!

I'm Myla, a black queer editorial artist, living in the UK. My passion for artistic looks developed when I got bored of seeing predominantly the same soft glam looks or smokey eyeshadow looks all over my explore feed, I used to draw a lot but had stopped for some time due to lack of inspiration so that's when the idea of combining my drawing/artistic skills into makeup looks on my face!

2. Whats your inspiration behind your bright abstract looks? How long does it take to execute a look on average?

Honestly, with all of my looks I get inspiration from anywhere, from staring blankly at my walls for a couple of minutes until an idea whizzes through my mind to looking at Pinterest, to having a conversation with my mum or friend and one word from that conversation will just spark up an idea in my head, to searching up local artists in my area and of course to looking at my mutuals for inspiration is really what helps me come up with all of the bright contents I’ve produced in the past and also recently. The timing of my looks honestly vary each day although i like to be strict with myself to keep a time limit of 1-2hours if i can help it but i have done looks which have taken my less than 20-30 mins to less than 10-15mins.

3. What impact do you wish to have on the beauty industry in 5 years time?

I really hope to have every single brand specifically recognise that art comes in all forms and faces, i hope to build a bigger platform and push specifically for darker individuals to get these beauty campaigns because truthfully speaking we as a collective are TIRED of seeing the same faces and looks.

4. A brand you’d love to work with and why:

There's honestly just so many brands i would love to work with i literally have a whole list but if i had to choose in terms of makeup definitely fenty beauty reason being that they are the most diverse makeup line up to date when it comes to skin tone although i would love to work with them to push for them to show case more editorial and avantgarde looks and artists on their platform! Clothing line wise? Ah it would be a dream to work/collabrate/model for/with Daily Paper & Burberry as i really want these brands to create for plus sized people!

5. A product you’ll always recommend:

MilkMakeup's hydro grip is a must for primers!

6. If there was one thing you could change about the beauty industry, what would it be?

It's my mission to get rid of how white washed the beauty industry is and i'm currently working on it to make that shit happen!
